Can Apple Save Education?
Apple’s education announcement this morning was a huge step forward for education. Certainly technology can revolutionize education, but can it also save it?
In addition to launching iBooks 2, offering interactie textbooks and adding a textbook section to the iBookstore, Apple debuted an updated version of its education-based service iTunes U, allowing educators to do much more than simply create downloadable lectures.
If there’s one thing that won’t improve the U.S. education system going forward, its spending an exuberant and unnecessary amount of money on paper textbooks year-after-year. If nothing else, school boards across the country may eventually divert the money they spend on textbooks to spending money on Apple technology as a more efficient use of resources.
