Christmas gift thief captured using Find My iPad app
Dec 27, 11
20-year-old Patrick Krewson was arrested today after he’s believed to have committed an early Christmas morning burglary in Los Angeles County, stealing more than 40 Christmas presents from a home in Vista three days earlier. One of the items stolen, an Apple iPad.
According to Lt. James Royal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, ”Later that morning, the victim called the station and told the deputies his iPad was ‘pinging’ from a nearby home. Deputies responded to the location, located the iPad, and arrested the suspect.”
The genesis of the pinging? Apple’s Find My iPad app.

That is absolutely awesome! This story may just be enough to sway me away from being a Windows OS loyalist to an Apple enthusiast. I once had a laptop stolen (Windows 7), and thought that there must be a way to use the WiFi to track where it was (and hence find the criminal and recover the stolen property).
Well, if there is a way to do it, I couldn’t figure out how. Few things get my goat more than thievery, and in light of this story, I’ve never been more inclined to buy an iPad.
