Walmart – The impact of the company we love to hate but can’t avoid

Dec 05, 11 Walmart – The impact of the company we love to hate but can’t avoid

Walmart, the discount retailer is the world’s 18th largest public corporation, according to the Forbes Global 2000 list, and the largest public corporation when ranked by revenue.

Additionally the company, with over 2 million employees worldwide,  is the largest private employer in the world.

Despite employing millions and saving money for millions more, the company is not without its share of detractors.

Claims that the corporation underpays workers, unfairly discourages labor unions, destroys small, independent American businesses and therefore is a major cause of lack of diversity in the marketplace and of the loss of community identity, are just a few of the reasons many dislike Walmart.

With holiday shopping in full swing, Frugal Dad examines the reach of Walmart and its impact, both good and bad, on all of us:

“In the heat of the holiday shopping season, I’m taking a moment to consider where I spend my hard earned money. You might be familiar with the status: Walmart’s the largest grocery store in the U.S., the largest retailer in the world, the leader in global corporate revenue and the largest employer in existence. Still, these facts don’t do much to demonstrate the reach of this superpower.”
