Turntable.fm launches iPhone app for virtual DJs on the go

Sep 13, 11 Turntable.fm launches iPhone app for virtual DJs on the go

Last week MG Siegler of TechCrunch revealed Turntable.fm would soon release an iPhone app.  The time is now, with today’s launch of Turntable.fm for iPhone.

What one gets with the iPhone app is what Turntable.fm users have come to expect,

“Turntable lets you play music together with your friends and other people online. Each DJ takes a turn playing a song and the entire virtual room hears the song. You can vote on whether the song is awesome or lame and if it receives too many lame votes, it gets skipped.”

One other excellent feature is also included, one can create your own Turntable.fm rooms, or start DJing within a current room, within the app itself.

Turntable.fm, the brainchild of Billy Chasen and Seth Goldstein,  follows a previous creation, StickyBits, an app for scanning barcodes.

With Turntable.fm, the two did a complete 180,  creating a social music experience where users can crowd virtual rooms and take turns spinning songs for one another from one of five DJ spots. The room also has a chat box, and users can rate the songs they hear, as well as purchase them through iTunes or Amazon’s music store.

One can join through Facebook provided at least one of your Facebook friends has access.

If you’ve yet to try Turntable.fm, find someone with access and get your DJ fix.  It’s immensely fun, addictive, and now available wherever you and your iPhone go.
