Flash vs. HTML5 vs. iOS. All you need to know [Infographic]
It may very well be a tired argument, Flash versus HTML5, but in many ways it’s quite enjoyable to sit back and watch the bickering by those in the “know” battle back and forth over the two. Nothing pleases yours truly more than Apple’s stance on Flash and Adobe’s responses.
In short, Apple CEO Steve Jobs penned an open letter, “Thoughts on Flash”, in which he elaborated on why he doesn’t want Adobe’s Flash software on the iPhone or iPad. Adobe CEO, Shantanu Narayen responded. Both provide splendid reading.
The struggle for dominance continues however; with design firm Periscopic examining not only Flash and HTML5, but also iOS, offering valuable information to those considering a project using one of the platforms.
Periscopic concludes in part:
“We’re excited to see how HTML5 evolves. It’s a good new synthesis of technologies and has a lot of potential for growth. The fact that its core technologies are open source should indicate that it will be well supported and accessible, and it’s likely that its feature set will only increase. At the moment however, it’s hard to say that it is a better choice than Flash for reaching the widest audience with the largest amount of features.”
Their opinion aside, which platform will you use when it’s decision time for your next project and why?
