The Present and Future State of Music [Infographic]
Music has always been a part of my life and something I truly enjoy. When I was young I was influenced by Mother’s love of Rock and Roll and my Grandma’s love of classic Country.
As I grew older I discovered Punk Rock, Hip-Hop, Classical and other types of music, learning to play instruments in middle school band, and a guitar on my own. To this day there are very few types of music I do not enjoy listening to, and attempting to replicate using my computer and my guitar.
Similar to how my musical tastes have evolved and so too has how I gain access to new music of the day. Radio and cassette tapes dominated my early years, then CDs in the mid-90′s, and the game-changing Napster during college. Now iTunes, Amazon.com and Rdio are the primary ways I discover and acquire new music.
The graphic below, from 3GM.hu, examines the present trend and statistics concerning music streaming and consumption. It’s a fascinating look at where we are and where we may be headed concerning music consumption.
How do you consume the music you listen to? Where do you purchase, if you do at all, the music you enjoy?
